Embury's Basic Drinks: The Old Fashioned

If you want a classic drink and try to find your signature drink begin with The Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned was created in 1806 and is thought to be the very first cocktail ever created. It's a man's drink with bourbon and even has a type of glass named after it, that is used for many cocktails now a days. According to many drink historians, the Old Fashioned is one of the four pillars of mixology and is an ideal cocktail since it contains: a spirit, a sweet, a bitter, a sour and water. Here's how to make this classic drink (there are many variations to make it but here's one):

Ingredients
2 ounces of bourbon
2 dashes of bitters
1 splash of water
1 tsp of sugar
1 maraschino cherry and 1 orange wedge

Directions
Mix sugar, water and bitters in an old-fashioned glass. Drop in a cherry and an orange wedge. Muddle into a paste using a muddler or the back end of a spoon. Pour in bourbon, fill with ice cubes, and stir. Relax, sip, and relax with this classic cocktail.
