Review - Public Enemies, Bada Bing Bada Boom

Not your typical gangster flick with Italian and Jewish mobs going about killing and eating, but Public Enemies brings you a more realistic feel of the life of John Dillinger, played by Johnny Depp. The viewer gets to follow Dillinger through a couple of bank robberies, a bunch of shoot outs, and other Dillinger outings. The movie was good, not great but good. The acting was definitely spot on. Johnny Depp is just an awesome actor in any movie, and he played Dillinger great and supposedly they had Dillinger's actual pants that he died in on set and they fit Depp like a glove. Christian Bale played the cop pretty well overall, and then you have Oscar winning actress Marion Cottillard who shows off why she earned that statue. A real good combination of acting. The visuals were brilliant: the sets looked perfect for the era, the cars were baller, costuming was very cool, the coloring/style was amazing, and the shoot outs were not your typical action movie shoot outs. They sounded extremely real and gave the viewer a very close POV of the action, which was great. And there were a couple of scenes that got you at the edge of the seat wondering if Dillinger's going to get caught.

There were some great parts with Dillinger walking right into the police station and not getting caught, but there were some slow downs that took a little bit away of the movie but they did help propel the storyline. The story was on, the look/style was spot on, the sound was mostly on, and the acting was definitely on. The only thing off was some of the camera work by Michael Mann. He gets waaaay too close in a lot of shots, the camera shakes to annoyance, and some shots really made the sets look like movie sets ruining the illusion of movies. Overall, no real babes, but great acting and very sick gun battles. I say worth seeing in theaters and maybe later on DVD.

Rating: 3.5/5 Bs
